Classic car air conditioning

As summer approaches, you can look forward to warmer weather and smoother driving conditions, making spring the ideal time to give your classic car some love and get it in top condition, ready for the heat and sunshine that lie ahead. And so, from upgrading your classic car air conditioning system to maintaining parts, we at Clayton Classics wanted to share our top five tips for what you can be doing now to update, upgrade and maintain your classic, and get the best out of it when we finally get some sun.

1. Cooling system check

It’s important to make sure your radiator is clean and free of any debris. You could check the coolant levels, or even consider flushing the radiator and replacing the coolant if it’s been a while.

2. engine check and tune-up

A well-tuned engine is better set up to handle the hot weather, so now could be a good time to check the spark plugs, ignition and fuel filters.

    3. air filter inspection

Air filters can get clogged, and affect your system’s ability to regulate the temperature, so it is worth checking this and cleaning if necessary.

    4. coolant hoses and belts

The key to look for here is any signs of cracking. Any damaged components could cause failures that might be leading your car to overheat.

      5. upgrade your classic car air conditioning system

Let’s face it, classic cars are not known for being able to regulate temperature very well, whether that’s in the hot or cold. But for a lot of classic owners, having a modern upgrade or retrofit may seem like a daunting prospect if it goes against the historical authenticity of their car.

However, a bespoke heating and air conditioning upgrade, with modern performance and authentic, discreet styling, could be a perfect way to get the most out of your car and achieve comfortable temperatures all year round.
